Welcome to the Management Information System (MIS) for macadamia nuts. The MIS unifies nurseries, farmers, traders, processors and retailers into a cooperative supply chain. The information that is generated from the MIS attracts retailer cooperatives, investors, and farmers to join the chain. The traceability of food production is often a mandatory standard by most retailers, so there should be agreed on the obligation of record keeping by farmer, collection point manager, processor, and retailer via this MIS.

Macadamia Business Plan for Cebu or Bohol, Philippines

Macadamia nuts are delicious nuts, available in many supermarkets. The nuts are produced from trees with a long lifespan which don't need much maintenance once established. The most parts of the Philippines have an ideal climate. The nuts are harvested when they fall on the ground. A mature tree yields 10-40 kg/year and then they are dehusked and being drought and sold at collection points for 1-3 dollars/kg. The demand of any nuts are rising and the effort to grow macadamia is low. The unavailability of grafted macadamia trees and the long time before first harvest are the negative aspects of macadamia production. If the macadamia tree is not grafted it can become older than 300 years, but it starts bearing fruit ater 7-20 years, but when they are grafted it might take 4-7 years.

My plan is to introduce macadamia cultivars to Bohol and Cebu and to multiply them in a nursery. The nursery can be financed by donations and by selling the macadamias to farmers. As follows I'm looking for landowners who want to cultivate the macadamia nuts. I also want to grow macadamias myself if I have land. By the time Collection Points will be organized where all joined farmers can sell their nuts. I will invest in a warehouse to process the nuts by cleaning units, drying units, nut-cracking machinery, and sorting machines. The final goal is to have a permanent buyer which is probably a domestic retail cooperative.

This MIS is used to find that client. All farmers, Collection Points, and the Processor should agree to record data about cultivation, trade, and the cracking process, otherwise there is no traceability and no credibility for banks to provide loans for investment.
