Black leg
This disease is caused by the seed-borne fungus Phoma lingam. The earliest visible sign of the disease appears as brown to black spots on the seedlings while in the seed beds. Old spots are ashy grey and often have pastules on them. The stem has dark cankers extending below the soil level and kills the roots. The disease also affects seed pods.
